After the Norris staff was thanked, Kathleen Casey, founder of Bear Necessities, led the dancers into a moment of silence to remember those who have battled pediatric cancer.
She named Bryan Paynter, a NU student who died of bone cancer in February; a member of the Bear Ambassadors program, which introduced children with pediatric cancer to DM volunteers; and her own son, the inspiration for Bear Necessities.

"Sadly, this disease will take the lives of over 2,300 children this year alone," Casey said. "So tonight in remembrance of one of your ambassadors that can't be here, Blake Hall and also very sadly, in remembrance of Bryan Paynter, and Bear, our inspiration and the many, many children that can't be with us tonight because they're battling and because they've sadly lost their lives — if we could take a moment for all those children and young adults and know that they're all here with you guiding you tonight."
