With old newspapers papering the men's restroom floor, Communication senior Rishi Taparia and Weinberg senior Daniel Jacobs are preparing themselves to shave their heads.
But the newspapers on the floor aren't necessary. It's only getting in the way, getting shoved out of the way by feet because the razor has a vacuum built into it, sucking up most of the loose hairs. Only every so often, someone needs to empty it out.
The Dance Marathon corporate relations co-chairmen are shaving each others' heads as a show support for the charity, Bear Necessities. The chairmen of the DM committees that raised the most money agreed they would go bald for the cause.
"I'm really not that excited," Jacobs said. "I'm feeling pretty bad, but it's worth it because –"
"Our committee really, really stepped up really, really big," Taparia added.
The committee raised more than $19,000 – $15,000 of that within the last month – by soliciting local businesses within Evanston and beyond in Old Orchard shopping mall.
As an audience gathered in the third floor of Norris University Center's men's bathroom, word is spreading that Jacobs' girlfriend is not too happy with his new hairstyle.
The two took turns getting their heads shaved, with Jacobs trimming down Taparia's head and vice versa. When a DM committee member walked in, she was shocked to see Taparia's head still full of hair – only shorter.
"Wait, Rishi," she said. "You look fine."
"I know I do," Taparia replied.
